Winter Together

The winter came and hid the sun

We awoke to darkness and supped the same way

Its cold breath crept in and stopped all growth

Green turned to brown and blue turned to grey

Warm-weather birds left a void in the air

Snow muffled streets silenced each night

Shelves slowly emptied, our fuel running low

Cold chilled our fingers. None heard our plight

But the winter had underestimated

What miracle is shared belief

What power is held in humanity

Refusing to be divided by grief

Together we shared the stories of old

We shared in the hope and we shared what we could

And the sharing turned winter from empty and cold

To a season where jointly we looked for the good

Collectively, we lit up the nights

Bright-colored bulbs fighting back through the dark

We took in the green and sheltered the holly

Abundance from giving, fire from spark

As one, we united our voices in song

With joyous verse and words we all know

Breaking the silence of each quiet night

Seeing that unity survives the snow
